 The Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the oldest economic organization in Japan, with a history tracking back over a century. It began in 1878 as the Chamber of Commerce, in Tokyo.

After a number of changes, it evolved into its current form as a public corporation in 1953, under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Law. Today, the Chamber is defined as a comprehensive local economic organization underlying economic activity in the region (usually a city), provided with four key characteristics.
 
1) Ties to the local community Achieved through membership.
2) Public utility Through the overall improvement of commerce and industry and the promotion of social welfare.
3) Wide-range support By accepting members corporations of all scales and forms all industries.
4) An international perspective Recognizing that it is joined by fellow organizations in most of the nations around the world.
 
 
 The Saitama Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Saitama Chamber of Commerce and Industry is unique in Japan in that it was formed on April 1, 2004 through the amalgamation of the Chamber Commerce and Industry of three cities (Urawa, Omiya and Yono). In addition, the Saitama Chamber of Commerce and Industry merged it with the Iwatsuki Chamber of Commerce and Industry on April 1, 2006.
